COMMUNITY
a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists.
In our first year studio we became a community within another. IARC is its own community of its own at UNCG, and within IARC each year is its own. In first year we've been through it all and came out with a bond to each other. We all started off not knowing anyone and quickly made friends as the late nights became more frequent and the stress levels rose. We all know what each of us are going through, we all understand, and because of this we are a community, a family.
STEWARDSHIP

Within our year we also learned about stewardship. Each person take to your own. Take care of your space and the world around you. Coming in to IARC most of us had never head of GREEN design or being "sustainable" but as the year went on we all became more educated on how we as individuals can better the earth and help preserve it for future generations to come. This is important to the planet and it begins with us as people, Especially IARC students, being the designers of the future it is imperative we incorporate what we can into our designs thusly helping the community, the nation, and the world.
AUTHENTICITY
the quality of being authentic; genuineness
Within our first year we also learned a lot about being authentic. Through the trials and tribulations of studio we often had common ideas on projects. If you watch our progression from project to project throughout the year you see how we all gained our own styles and became authentic. We learned how to make ourselves stick out and be unique.
INNOVATION
the act of innovating; introduction of new things or methods

With each generation that grows we see new innovations in the world. Each group has a new bright idea and everyone has a new spin on how to make things in the world better. This is evident especially in design. There are always new movements and things that change to make things "better" in a groups eyes. Think of the progression of design of things, lets say columns; Back when studying greece and rome we could see the difference in time periods by how the columns in the building looked. This was innovation in a simple form. Look at technology, each new piece that comes out is smaller, faster, better. That is innovation.
