OPUS PART DUEX

- Illuminate -
To Illuminate is to bring something forth in someone's attention wither it be visually or mentally. In Suzanne's class we began experimenting with water colors, these not only help better our pictures ascetically but also help ILLUMINATE certain things in the drawing we wish to bring attention to.

- Idiom -
double meaning, alternative expression, characteristic mode of expression, additive, subtractive, shared by all, unspecialized, multi-generational, tradition bound
In the English language an idiom is a saying that when taken literally makes absolutely no sense but the meaning is known. Such as…

- Material -
Material matters in that you must use the correct material depending on our project, you must also use your material wisely. The type of material used depend son many things. In modern day we can just order whichever material we choose and/or find best suited. In ancient times there was much less freedom when to came to the amount of materials imported and the people had to use what was readily available. A great example would be the Egyptians and using limestone to build the main part of the pyramids.

"The basic elements of architectural design described by Vitruvius have remained essentially unchanged since the time humans first began to shape their enviornment. Architecture, Vitruvius wrote, must provide utility, firmness, and beauty or, as Sir Henry Wotten later paraphrased it in the seventeenth century, commodty firmness and delight" (Roth 11)

- Commodity -
is the functional arrangement of rooms and spaces so that there is no hindrance to use and so that the building is perfectly adjusted to its site. (Roth 11)
When creating a room, space, or building interior it is very important to make it so that the room, space, or building can be used for its intended purpose. In the same aspect the room, space, or building should be able to be modified easily incase the purpose or use or its interior changes.

- Firmness -
refers to solid foundations and wisely used building materials (Roth 11)
Everything that is created for use should be able to withstand the test of time and its use. This is also seen in the pyramids. Why create something that will end up falling apart or breaking during its use? In the same sense when possible materials should be in sync with the planet and cause as little harm to the earth as possible. This is where sustainable building comes into play.

- Delight -
rhythm, proportion, texture, light, color, material, ugliness, sound, scale, ornament
When designing something you must take into account the fact that it needs to be aesthetically appealing so that it appeals to its users. This is in my opinion one of the most important things in design. Yes it may serve a function or assist in creating but is it truly useful? Will people want to use it? Will people want to come into your space?

- Reflection -
All in all when creating a designer must keep in mind every single thing from the materials the use to how their ting will be viewed and used. They must also keep in mind the environment in which their creation will be used and/or built, also how to keep their masterpiece environmentally friendly so that while standing the test of time their room/space/building/bike rack/whatever does not and will not cause harm to the planet.
